Caernarfon Boro 6 - 2 Llanfair PG Res

This was Boro's last pre season friendly and it all started with a last minute switch from playing at the Aber Forshore to settle for Cae Cerrig. To our horror, we found that the council had been there to put new top soil and grass seeds down at the goal mouths. Great to have it done - but less than a week before the season starts!!?? Great wisdom from the powers that be at the council, eh? Some things never change! (Apologies to anyone that turned up over the aber to find the place empty!)
Anyway, the game kicked off on time and Boro were fielding  a strong side. Early indications showed the home side just about on top and Mike Williams (Chips) made his intentions clear with a 15th minute header to put Boro in front.

Llanfair PG were awarded a penalty less than 10 minutes later for a hand ball against left back Carwyn Roberts. (A generous decision by stand in Ref, Jamie Richardson!) There was no mistake with taking the penalty and the score was level. But that changed on the half hour mark when the home 'keeper was beaten by a stunning 25 yard strike. Their lead lasted a mere 5 minutes though, as it was the home side's turn to be awarded a penalty. New striker Alan Mark Hughes making no mistake from the spot to take the game into half time at 2 - 2.

The second half got off to a bright start when Alan Mark put Boro back in front with a glorious 20 yard effort after only 50 seconds of the restart. (Hadn't even switched my camera back on!)
Boro were now beginning to take firm control of the match and the balance of the side looked good. Changes to the side were slowly introduced, but the performance stayed the same as Chips found the net once again on 68 minutes. His second of the match had now put Boro 4 - 2 up.

Lively right wing substitute Paul (Bach) Richardson smashed home a near post effort just 2 minutes later. What was now becoming a romp, wasn't plain sailing as the visitors kept the back four busy enough at times.
With just 5 minutes left on the clock, Chips helped himself to a simple tap in to complete his hatrick and the 6 - 2 scoreline.
It was a good performance by the Boro and an encouraging one to take into the tough 1st league game against Trefor on Saturday.
